Prawn Mee @ Cik Ditiro, Medan

This time I am going to talk about local food in Medan. The prawn mee at Cik Ditiro. Godly!

I could not explain much about this one as you have to try by yourselves. This is the best thus far that I have tasted in my entire life. I prefer this type of Prawn Mee than the local Singapore one. The soup is just really seasoned and tasty. The spicyness of the soup is just nice and the prawn is really crunch and fresh. The prawn balls are seasoned well and you could barely taste the flour. Overall is 10 out of 10 for me for local food category.

This has become my favorite breakfast place in Medan. I have to go there literally every week with my husband!

Along with that I also like to order the fried chee cheong fan. This is delicious too! Everything fried with egg and oil is good, but not every food has the crunchy fresh prawns that just really makes it special!

The Harvest @ Dr Cipto Medan

I finally went to the Harvest in Medan. I was impressed with the interior, the ambience and the professionalism they can provide in Medan. It made me feel like I was in Jakarta or some other big cities.

We went in greeted friendly by the staff. The Harvest adapted classic interior with unique ornaments on the corners of the room and a high ceiling with huge artistic lamps hang. They offer cakes, ice creams, pralines, chocolates, cookies, hampers and main menu. It is almost like Harold's in London in my opinion, especially the way the cookies are being packaged.

We were only there for the desserts and coffee. We ordered Potato Skin, Red Velvet and the famous Chocolate Cheese cake.

The potato skins are good, but this wasn't a challenging food and there is very little room to go wrong unless you are unlucky and you are an amateur cook.

The red velvet cake is delicious and unique but it was a little too creamy for me. There are creams in every layer of cake crumbs. Normal red velvet cake will have thicker cake and thus the cream will not over dominate the cake.

The chocolate cheese cake is unique. You can taste both the opposite favors but it was not too sweet and it has a very smooth texture.

Of course with slurps of Cappucino. What's tea time without caffeine ?

Overall, 7.5/10 for me for desserts category.

Hashida @ Mandarin Gallery

As I finally agree to follow my husband to move to his hometown and become a stay home mum, my husband has been giving me special treatment nowadays. He brought me to a romantic omakase dinner at Hashida Singapore for our Valentine celebration.

It was such a delightful experience that we have promised to ourselves that we will definitely come back again for our next special occasion. We were lucky to have Chef Hatch served us personally and seated beside 3 serious eaters whom one of them is the restaurant investor and the other one of them is a food critic.

Straight to the food reviews, dinner price is 300-500 SGD (before tax and service charge). We chose SGD 400 for our first experience there and we were very satisfied with the quantity and the quality of food served. I am not going to give a very detailed description as it is for you to find out and experience. The dining experience will be like a story telling where your taste buds should be surprised and dared.

Here is the picture of the tuna sashimi that sent me to heaven for few seconds:

Chef Hatch combined the different parts of the tuna, Maguro, Otoro and Chutoro into one serving of sashimi below. Wow the taste of the freshness, raw flavor and fatty belly burst in my mouth. He gave me one more bonus serving for this sashimi, perhaps he saw the fireworks in my eyes.

Mixture of raw eggs, caviar, uni, tuna belly and fish cakes. The dish is inspired by Singapore dry noodles which have to be mixed together before eating.

Amazingly Unagi. Tasty sweet sauce and smooth texture

Healthy fish soup:

And the high quality seasonal aburi:

And more and more sashimi:

Fat juicy grilled lobster meat:

Otoro:

Artistic prawn dish:

Beautiful combo of seasonal sashimi, with quote a generous serving of uni:

A uniquely tasty scallop with seaweed

Yummy tuna sashimi with fresh wasabi:

Overall 9/10 for me! Perfect place for serious Jap Food eaters!

Mad for Garlic

I don't like the smell of garlic and I will only eat it if I cannot see it on my food. But yesterday (18 March 2012) was my second time to have dinner in Mad for Garlic. The garlic'ly design of the interior is very unique and all the food in the menu is cooked with garlic.

We ordered: Garlicholic Rice (the garlic is cooked in such a way that it blended well with the fried rice. the smell was not too strong and the taste is just nice)

We also ordered Lobster Pasta. A little too creamy and the taste is just ordinary.

Mushroom Risotto is our next dish. The combination of Mushroom and Grilled Chicken in a Garlic Sauce Risotto is not too bad.

We also had the Garlic Snowing Pizza. It is thin and not too fattening. The Hawaian taste and the Fried Garlic mixed realy well.

Japanese Food @ Itacho Ion

The sushi set at Itacho Ion is superb. It has eel spring rol in the middle, beef sushi, salmon sushi and mackerel sushi. The sashimi is fresh and the sushi taste different from a normal sushi. I can feel the half grilled salmon and the taste of a special sauce added on the sushi.
Another unique dish is the Eel Sushi which is like 30cm Long. The eel is 10 times longer than the rice. The taste is normal though and the sauce is nothing special. For eel, my number one choice is still Chikuwatei - at Muhamad Sultan.

Mellben @ Ang Mo Kio

The best beehon butter crab in Singapore!

We came at 6.20 pm and It took us 2 hours to queue and waiting for the food. Iguess people don't mind lining up for the good food.

I will rate the beehon butter crab 10/10! The butter soup and the thick meat of the crab lifts up the mood and cheer the hungry stomach!

As an appetizer we have fried yam ring with cashew nuts and mushroom. It is unhealthy but it is a must have dish!

The Chilli Crab is delicious too! Dip the fried mantou inside the chilli sauce and eat it together with the crab. The sweet taste of the mantou and the spicy sauce mixed really well.

If not because of the long queue, I would have come here every weekend. :)

Ao Nang Cuisine

Down the Ao Nang beach, we found a small little restaurant - Ao Nang Cuisine. It offers a typical authentic thai food with a friendly waitress. Thai Coconut is a must have - it is naturally sweet than the normal coconut.

We have the Pad Thai -  (ผัดไทย "fried "Thai Style). The tamarind juice, crushed peanuts, coriander, chilli pepper sauce blends really well with the prawns, eggs and chicken. Especially when you eat it hot in a rainy weather.

And the famous Green Curry Chicken which is a must have in every thai food dish

Another highlight of the restaurant is Butter Prawn with Sweet Sour Sauce. There are only 4 big prawns but it was enough for 2 people. I acually hate onions but the onions seasoning made the prawn taste really delicious.

We decided to have Mango Sticky Rice for dessert but without the Rice as both of us were too full. I wonder why thai Mango is always very sweet. We finished the whole mango in the matter of minutes.
